Women who join WIN contribute $2,400 a year, or $1,200 a year for those age 40 and younger. We encourage members to stay involved for at least three years, because a stable membership ensures a reliable source of funding for Nebraska's nonprofit community.
Annual contributions are pooled, then shared 50/50 between the University of Nebraska and Nebraska-based charities. With sufficient membership, WIN will develop a six-figure philanthropic treasure chest each year for the University of Nebraska and the selected Nebraska nonprofit. A one-person, one-vote process will determine what members would like to fund at the university and what Nebraska-based charity they would like to support.
Each member's annual contribution of $2,400 is composed as follows: $1,200 for the pooled grant fund benefiting the University of Nebraska and $1,200 for the pooled grant fund benefiting the greater Nebraska nonprofit community. Members age 40 an younger may pay an annual contribution of $1,200 comprised as follows: $600 for the pooled grant fund benefiting the University of Nebraska and $600 for the pooled grant fund benefiting the greater Nebraska nonprofit community.
The selection process will be managed by the Grants Committee, which is comprised of active members. The process begins with the acceptance and review of Letters of Inquiry from prospective grantees. Based on these submissions, the Grants Committee then invites specific organizations and University groups to submit proposals. The Grants Committee further researches and narrows these proposals, and a specified number of proposals are submitted to the active membership for a vote. An active member is defined as one who has made her membership contribution in the previous 18 months.
The exact number and size of grants will be determined annually based on the amount in the pooled funds as of June 30. Grants will be awarded each fall.
"Now that I'm in my 50s, a key truth has emerged, and it is simply and importantly this: The power and importance of women friends and colleagues in my life. Because when women join together through a shared passion for giving, the world will change for the better."
